Paris Fashion Week’s annual fundraiser for the biggest French HIV charity, Sidaction, is being moved from January to July, organising body Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) said Thursday, citing the pandemic as the reason for the postponement.

The event, which typically closes the January haute couture season, is one of just a few black-tie galas on the Paris fashion calendar, and typically rallies broad industry support due to Sidaction’s longstanding ties with fashion figures like Yves Saint Laurent’s co-founder Pierre Bergé.

After a January 2020 edition that raised a record 780,000 euros ($880,000) for Sidaction, the event was replaced with a series of online auctions last year.

FHCM’s move to postpone its soiree is the latest sign that fashion weeks in January will feature fewer large-scale, in-person events as cases of the omicron variant rise worldwide. Giorgio Armani cancelled his January shows in Milan and Paris, and others like Brunello Cuccinelli and Ann Demeulemeester have pulled out of Florence’s Pitti Uomo. In Paris, anchor brands like Christian Dior have said they still hope to invite a socially-distanced audience.
