Week in Review | YSL's wake up call, Burberry causes a downpour, Looking back at Paris Fashion Week

A Wake-Up Call for YSL's PR Team (Opinion)
"A few weeks ago, Yves Saint Laurent's PR team wrote to BoF, asking that we edit a tweet. We had shared one of the striking new Saint Laurent campaign images with our followers, referring to the campaign as 'Saint Laurent Paris.' Brands often write to thank us for sharing their advertising campaigns with our community, but this was the first time that a brand had written asking us to rewrite a tweet."

Market Pulse | Burberry Causes a Downpour (Market Pulse)
"The Savigny Luxury Index (SLI) lost 6.9 percent in September, underperforming a flat-ish MSCI World Index (MSCI) by nearly seven percentage points.  Burberry's profit warning sent the sector into turmoil mid-month and no amount of good news from the likes of Prada and Michael Kors could lift investors' spirits."

Looking Back at a Historic Paris Fashion Week (Opinion)
"Each season, as the international fashion flock winds its way from New York to London to Milan, there is usually a gradual yet perceptible build up of excitement for what comes last: Paris Fashion Week. After all, it's here in the City of Light where the best and brightest designers from around the world come to show their collections."

The luxury that dare not speak its name (FT)
"But China is no longer just the sweatshop of the world that churns out cheap T-shirts and jeans. The high costs in Europe have meant that many artisans have moved to China, while local manufacturers have also benefited from a transfer of knowledge that has taken place since the country became an outsourcing centre more than three decades ago."

A Game of Checkers (IHT)
"The Louis Vuitton show hit its graphic target on Wednesday, marking a sparky and spectacular moment on the last day of the monthlong international season. The show underscored one of the strongest themes for summer 2013: geometry, redrawing in straight lines the shapely female body."

Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent debut (Telegraph)
"What was most suprising was that it was so unsurprising. It was exactly as expected: lots of masculine/feminine trouser suits, some beautiful wafty dresses and poet's blouses (most of which we've seen before on Kate Moss and Stevie Nicks, although perhaps not always in quite such luxe fabrications) and a cool soundtrack, edited for the show by Daft Punk. Crucially, what was lacking was the frisson of the unexpected – that challenging jolt that only a really strong show delivers."

Then Comes the 4th Dimension (IHT)
"To be modern in fashion today, a designer needs a sculptural knowledge of the human body, an architect's understanding of graphic proportions and an ability to absorb the digital revolution.  Then comes the fourth dimension. The Paris shows for summer 2013 over fashion's long weekend have divided the protagonists into those who get the depth of possibilities — and those who are still making just clothes."
