Power Moves | Liberty Hires CMO, J.C. Penney Names CFO

This week, Liberty appoints its first chief marketing officer, while J.C. Penney continues its streak of executive hires with a new chief financial officer.

LONDON, United Kingdom — BoF compiles the most important professional moves of the week.

Liberty appoints CMO
British luxury department store Liberty has appointed its first ever chief marketing officer, Madeleine Macey, with immediate effect. Macey was previously marketing and communications director at the company and reports to Liberty chief executive Adil Mehboob-Khan.

J.C. Penney hires CFO
Amid a series of executive shake-ups, J.C. Penney has named Bill Wafford chief financial officer. Joining the company from The Vitamin Shoppe, where he was executive vice president and chief financial officer, Wafford reports to chief executive Jill Soltau.

Bottega Veneta names EMEA CEO
Former Adidas and Hugo Boss executive Massimiliano Brunazzo has been hired as chief executive of Bottega Veneta's EMEA zone. Brunazzo replaces Mark LeMat, who exited the company in February, and reports to chief executive Claus-Dietrich Lahrs.

Giovanni Bianco leaves Vogue Italia as creative director
Condé Nast Italia has announced the departure of Giovanni Bianco, who served as Vogue Italia's creative director for two years. Bianco, whose final issue will be June 2019, plans to pursue projects relating to his own creative agency, GB65.  A replacement has not yet been named.

Boden taps Tory Burch executive for CTO
British retailer Boden has named Shaun Perkinson chief technology officer, a newly created role. Prior to his appointment at Boden, which takes effect April 23, Perkinson was vice president of technology, and before that worked on Burberry's technology team. He will report to Boden chief executive Jill Easterbrook.

Unilever names president of beauty and personal care
Unilever has tapped Sunny Jain, head of core consumables at Amazon, for the role of president of beauty and personal care, effective June 2019. He will report to chief executive Alan Jope. 

Hudson's Bay Company adds to board of directors
Hudson's Bay Company, which counts Lord + Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue in its portfolio, has added strategic consultant Stephanie Coyles to its board of directors as an independent director of the company, effective March 27. Coyles currently sits on the boards of Canadian insurance company Sun Life Financial and grocery store chain Metro.

Theory CEO to exit company
Andrew Rosen, co-founder and chief executive of Theory, is to step down, the brand's owner Fast Retailing announced earlier this week. Rosen will stay on at Theory in an advisory capacity while pursuing other projects outside of the company. He will be replaced by Dinesh Tandon, Theory's global chief operating officer, who will also take on Rosen's purview at Helmut Lang.

Glossier appoints head of content
Leah Chernikoff, digital director of Elle, has been tapped by Glossier for the newly created role of head of content, to start in April. Chernikoff will report to Glossier's senior vice president of marketing Alexandra Weiss and creative director Marie Suter. She will be succeeded at Elle by deputy editor Katie Connor.

Paul Surridge quits as Cavalli creative director
Paul Surridge has confirmed rumours of his departure from Roberto Cavalli, where he served as creative director since joining the company in 2017. A replacement has not yet been named.
